From Niggling to Nagging Leg Pain

When minor niggling pain in a buttock develops into a nagging pain that shoots down the back of the leg into the toes, the condition known as “sciatica” is probably the cause. As the affected toes become numb, walking gets to be difficult and limping and ends up the norm. By favoring one side to avoid pain in the other, sciatica patients create a compensatory effect that puts pressure on the opposite knee, which then begins to ache. These increasingly painful symptoms begin with an impingement on the “sciatic nerve,” the largest nerve in the body. By addressing the root of the problem, sciatica sufferers may avoid the domino effect that could otherwise lead to harmful pain medications and lost mobility.

Chiropractors take many factors-including size, weight, and muscle structure-into consideration when deciding on which adjustment to perform. A sciatica treatment plan may include several different treatments such as Electric Muscle Stimulation, Cold Laser Therapy and Spinal Adjustments (Spinal Manipulation).
